The High Costs of Ethanol September 19, 2007

    This articles deals with the production of biofuels. It talks mainly about ethanol, the fuel made from corn. the author talks about how ethanol isn’t a very good alternative compared to the gasoline that we are getting from overseas. In using ethanol the price of corn is going up temendously. The cost of ethanol fuel is about the same as normal gas and the emissions is only about 13 percent less. He says that in using ethanol it is hurting other countries around world because they are going to go hungry because we are using to much corn for our fuel. George Bush in January said he wants to use 35 billion gallons of biofuel by 2017.

This guy is a bum. I think that the production of biofuels could really benefit our country. I think that around the world we have plenty of corn to go around at this point. Just drive through Iowa. If we can become less dependent of oil, then we don’t need to suck up to the middle east anymore. I don’t want to be in debt to the middle east for oil. They will just play us. If we can get fuel from our homeland then why not? Its the same price, and less fuel emmissions. I don’t really see how it can hurt us that badly. Plus if we get on this bandwagon of biofuels, it can only lead to better things. So i think that we should go forward on the production of ehtanol because it is better for our country.

Olympics bound September 17, 2007

In this article, the author talks about the coming olympic games in China. It talks about China’s offer to President Bush to attend the opening ceremonies for the 2008 games held in Beijing. The author thinks that the President should not have said yes so quickly, he thinks because China is a communist nation he should have held out for a little while to kind of make a statement. The United States needs to remind China that the olympic games are going to be watched by the entire world so they need to let up on some of their restrictions, Such as reporting, and religion. China has said that they will be leniant on these issuess. The author says that bush shouldn’t have agreed to coming so he could leverage these issues towards the better.

I somewhat agree with what this article is saying. I don’t think that bush should have responded so early to the offer because China is a communist nation and we need to send a message to communist nations that we aren’t down with what they are doing. On the other hand i don’t know if not resonding so quickly would rally send that big of a message to China’s leader. I’m sure china could handle themselves if bush didn’t come, so why make things more stressful than the need to be. bush knew he was going to go, so why prolong it. overall i think it was a well written article.

No Exit Strategy September 14, 2007

    This Article is reviewing a speech that George W. Bush gave this week. It deals with the ever popular issue of the war in Iraq. It talks about how bad the speech was and how he has given that same speech about twelve times since the surge of the American troops began. He says that Bush has no plan on ending the war. He is just going to let that burden fall to the next president. He talks about how general Patreus, the highest ranking general in Iraq said a decrease of troops would be wise. Bush said that a decrease of troops would make for a very bloody situation in Iraq. So in a nutshell this editorial is talking about how bush has absolutely plan on how to withdraw troops from Iraq and he is just kind of beating around the bush on what he is going to do.

I think that this editorial is a bunch of bull. He says the bush has no plan on an exit strategy, or just any strategy for that matter. There is no way that the president of the United States doesn’t have some sort of strategy on what he is doing when his country is at war. When he says that he has given this speech many times. Maybe that is an indication that he has a plan and he isn’t changing it according to what people think. He is going to give this speech many times, because that is what he believes. I don’t think a surge is going to do much but i don’t think they should start with drawing troops. Iraq is getting better but it isn’t finished yet. My grandpa’s motto is don’t do anything half way. I think bush is staying true to that. I think that this editorial makes bad claims about Bush. Overall it was well written and easy to understand.
